Debuting back in 2012, the original Lollipop Chainsaw was an interesting action game from Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games. Earlier this year, Dragami Games announced a remake, set to arrive in late 2023. Sadly, the do-over has now been delayed to 2024. However, to cushion the blow the studio announced the final name of the Lollipop Chainsaw remake: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP.
Lollipop Chainsaw is the story of sweet and killer zombie-hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead. However, this is only the beginning. In typical SUDA 51 style, it’s soon revealed that a festival of zombie rock lords are determined to kill the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader.
The Lollipop Chainsaw remake was originally intended to be released this year. However, as stated above, Dragami Games has made the decision to delay the game into 2024. According to the studio, this is due to the team’s, “Commitment to offer the best quality possible experience to players.”
Fans of the original Lollipop Chainsaw should rest assured that the team will do it justice with Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. Some of the developers who worked on the original are currently working on the remake, including producer and Dragami Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop Release Plans
Little else is currently known about Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. This includes which formats the game will launch on. The original was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. An educated guess would lead you to the belief that the game will come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also possible we’ll see releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But how about Nintendo Switch and PC? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, we can enjoy the lovely new logo featured on this page and… not much else.
