The Nintendo Switch may be getting a bit long in the tooth, however it still has plenty of exciting titles in the tank. With the recent delay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 into 2023, it’s time to look at what other titles could become the best Nintendo Switch games of the year.

While the aforementioned The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is almost certain to be a highlight of whatever year it eventually launches in (currently suggested for 2023), there are a number of other Nintendo Switch games to be excited about. The Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-boot Camp release date remains unknown, so that title is also out. Furthermore, the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy remains elusive. So what else is there? Read on to find out!

Best Nintendo Switch Games Coming in 2022

The below titles are all confirmed to launch in 2022. Though some do not yet have exact release dates, every title featured below has offered no indication it won’t make it’s scheduled 2022 launch. There are of course numerous other Nintendo Switch games set to launch between now and the end of the year, but the below are Chit Hot’s top picks. Enjoy!

Nintendo Switch Sports (29th April 2022)

The title set to arrive the soonest, Nintendo Switch Sports is the long awaited Nintendo Switch update to the hugely popular Wii Sports. While 1-2-Switch offered some Joycon waggling fun at the launch of the console, it never quite lived up to Wii Sports‘ acclaim. Nintendo Switch Sports features a collection of mini games based on competitive sports. These include badminton, bowling, chambara, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Golf will also be added in a free update later this year. The retail package even includes a legstrap for your Joycon controllers to offer more realistic control in the soccer mini-game.

Continuing with the sports theme, Mario Strikers: Battle League follows in the footsteps of 2020’s Mario Golf: Super Rush. The series has been absent from Nintendo consoles since 2007, so it’s good to see it return. Especially considering Mario Strikers: Battle League looks set to offer a heart-pounding, adrenaline-rush version of soccer. Players choose from a roster of Mario characters and take to the pitch in five-on-five matches. Knocking the ball into the goal is of course the objective, but in Mario Strikers: Battle League you can be very aggressive with how you choose to do so.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (24th June 2022)

The original Fire Emblem Warriors was somewhat of a sidestep for the series. Typically a heavy strategy experience, Fire Emblem Warriors saw Koei Tecmo apply their Musuo formula to the series. It was well received, and so the sequel Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is set to arrive this summer. The story follows many of the characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but offers an all-new scenario for each.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (29th July 2022)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to be the Nintendo Switch’s biggest RPG of 2022. Based on information from the development team, it appears that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will bridge the story of the two previous numbered entries in the franchise. Exactly how this will play out is unclear, but the premise alone is packed with storytelling potential. For those who can’t wait for the third title, you can prepare by playing the earlier two titles, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch now!

The now seemingly annual Pokémon Nintendo Switch release returns to the main bloodline. After the well received Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are looking set to renovate the traditional formula somewhat. The debate about regional vs. global Pokédex continues to rage amongst the hardcore Pokemon fanbase. However, for more casual fans this new entry is shaping up to be something special indeed. Expect more details on Pokémon Scarlet & Violet in the coming months.
