The recently released Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 presents a significant overhaul of the game modes compared to the first title. Not only is there a brand new Campaign mode included, but there’s also a number of unlockable game modes. This guide to all the game modes in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 will detail each and every one – and how to unlock them all!

Game Modes in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

As stated above, some game modes in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 have to be unlocked. However, we’ll start with the game modes that are available from the very first time you load the game.

Battle

Battle is the basic game mode in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. Here, you can fight against AI opponents or your friends locally. You can choose which level to play on, and each battle can be customised with a variety of rules. Created rulesets can be saved to play again later. Up to four brawlers can enter each fight, and can be any combination of local players and AI opponents. The latter of which also have a range of difficulty settings.

Online

As the name suggests, this option grants you access to online gameplay. Here, we have three different game modes:

Ranked

The competitive game mode. You’ll fight against other players from across the world, and your ranking will be adjusted in accordance with your wins and losses. As might be expected, winning matches will improve your rank. Conversely, losing will reduce your rating, demoting you to lower ranks.

Quickplay

The Quickplay mode includes free-for-all, 1v1, and 2v2 game modes. The free-for-all mode puts you into a random multiplayer lobby. These are created by other players, with a basic series of options. 1v1 and 2v2 follow the default Battle settings. Of course, in 2v2 mode you’ll be playing with a teammate.

Lobbies

The Lobbies option allows you to create the lobbies seen in the above Quickplay game mode. However, it also allows you to create Private Lobbies for online play with your friends. That is, providing they have also bought the game, of course.

Campaign

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 adds a Campaign mode to the original game’s Arcade mode offering. Here, you embark on a journey to stop Vlad Plasmius from destroying the world. You will move through levels by fighting against AI enemies, completing platform sections, and engaging in mini-games. It’s not all too dissimilar to the single-player Adventure mode from the classic Super Smash Bros. Melee. The Campaign mode is also your path for unlocking characters, and new game modes.

Single Player

Within the Single Player menu option, there are four game modes. However, two of them require some progress through the Campaign mode to unlock in their fullest. More on these below, but from the start we have Arcade and Dojo.

Arcade

Arcade mode is the typical series of fights against other characters from the game, controlled by the AI. You can select the difficulty before beginning, and after each character is defeated you progress to the next. The final boss is Vlad Plasmius, the same villain as the Campaign mode.

Dojo

Dojo is Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2‘s practice mode. There’s some basic tutorials for how to play the game here, but you’ll also experience most of this in the Campaign mode.

Unlockable Game Modes in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 features two game modes that will be accessible from the start, but not with all their content. In order to fill these out, you must progress through the game’s Campaign mode.

Boss Rush

A traditional Boss Rush mode, here you can fight against all the bosses featured in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2‘s Campaign mode one-by-one. There’s no need to complete other levels in between, it’s just boss-after-boss-after-boss. However, you must have faced a boss in the Campaign mode before it becomes playable here.

Mini-Games

At launch, there are two mini-games available in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. These are Pop the Slime Balloons and Whack-a-bot. Again, you must have played them at least once before you can access them here.
