Nearly two years ago a new development studio was announced. Formed of co-developers from The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, Rebel Wolves laid out their plans to develop a ‘next-gen RPG’. Now, that project has been revealed in earnest.

When we say ‘revealed’, the information is still pretty thin on the ground. At present, we have the single piece of art you can see on this page, plus a title. Dawnwalker. That’s it. That’s the reveal.

The official press communique on the game reads as follows:

Dawnwalker has officially entered its alpha stage of development and we’ll have more exciting updates on the game later this year.”

Still not particularly much to go on, then. However, Rebel Wolves also recently made a new hire. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, has officially joined as Creative Director. Tomaszkiewicz had the following to say:

“Throughout all my years in game development, story-driven role-playing adventures have always been something I was most passionate about.

“For me, nothing beats being able to fully immerse myself and discover handcrafted stories and worlds. There are so many fantastic RPGs out there today, however, I feel that there’s not only enough space but also a hunger among players for more captivating stories. That’s why I’m very happy to join many of my old-time friends and meet many new ones at Rebel Wolves as a Creative Director. We aim to deliver the RPG we’d love to play ourselves.”

The confidence is high. With an undoubtedly talented team, Rebel Wolves are aiming to raise the bar of what is expected of RPGs. Tomaszkiewicz is clearly aware of the agenda upon joining the team, as he continues:

“We want to craft a world that you will want to explore and dive deep into and tell stories that make you care about the characters. We aim to deliver an experience that will allow for a variety of choices and room for experimentation when replayed.”

From this, we can extract that Dawnwalker will be an RPG driven by player choice. Not unlike the franchises many of the team had previously worked on at CD Projekt Red. We expect to hear more on Dawnwalker later this year, but in the meantime let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
