WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, the dark fantasy horror FPS inspired by the original Quake, is now available for consoles. Celebrating the launch, publishers Fulqrum Publishing and 3D Realms have also announced that a physical edition is in production and set to launch next month.

What is WRATH: Aeon of Ruin?

You emerge from the ruins of The Old World and embark on a bloodthirsty mission as the Outlander. Something about ‘guardians’ and ‘sheparding’ and blah blah blah. Most importantly as a Quake inspired game, you’ll be ‘leaving a blazing trail of death and destruction along the way’. Nice.

In WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, you’ll blast through hordes enemies with a double-barreled shotgun, or use the Ruination Blade to slice a path forward. Crank up the intensity with biological weapons turning foe’s teeth and cysts into lethal projectiles. The game melds fast-paced action with aggressive gameplay for a modern take on retro first-person shooters.

The post-apocalyptic world consists of 15 maps across three distinct hubs. You’ll trek through ancient crypts, decaying ruins, and haunting forests. Of course, as you go you’ll be on the hunt for various secrets and items to aid in survival.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin Digital & Physical Editions

Developed by KillPixel Games and Slipgate Ironworks, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin debuted on PC in February, 2024. The game has been well received, and the team are obviously hoping for the same of its console launch.

The console launch edition includes all content from the 1.0 PC release. This include:

  • A story spanning three episodes, each capped off by an epic boss battle.
  • An arsenal of nine deadly weapons.
  • Three powerup-granting Sigils.
  • Ten storable Artifacts.
  • Throngs of monstrous enemies.

Whether future updates will mirror on both console and PC editions is not currently known. However, you can bet that support for the console editions will be a high priority.

The game is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, each via their respective digital stores. As stated above, a physical edition of the game is also set to launch in May 2024. However, no details on the pricing or contents of this version have yet been revealed. Nor has a specific release date.
