The Dawnbringers series of books made no secret that it would be the gateway for the upcoming Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4.0 launch. The transition has been handled well by most accounts, but there’s no denying that this last step feels a little rushed. And that’s because in this closing chapter of the Dawnbringers saga, we have not one but two new sets being released for the Slaves to Darkness army. One of which we haven’t heard even a whisper about previously.
Dawnbringers: Book VI – Hounds of Chaos
The final chapter in the Dawnbringers saga sees the cities, Verdigris and Embergaard, fall upon disaster. Well, one of them, at least. The Darkoath, Abraxia, and darker forces yet array their power against them.
Hounds of Chaos contains warscrolls for Abraxia, the Spear of the Everchosen. Plus, there’s a brand new Regiment of Renown in the shape of Brand’s Oathbound (see more below).
There’s also the addition of a Path to Glory supplement for the Cities of Sigmar, which will decide the ultimate fate of your city. A fancy Special Edition is also on the way. As with all the new releases featured in this article, Dawnbringers: Book IV – Hounds of Chaos will be available for pre-order from 25th May, 2024.
Abraxia’s Varanspear
The protagonist of Dawnbringers VI – Hounds of Chaos crashes onto the battlefield soon. Abraxia was revealed several months ago but there had been no news since. Now we know when this unlikely hero will launch.
Initially, Abraxia will be bundled with a unit of Varanguard. These are arguably some of the most expensive models in the Slaves to Darkness range. If you haven’t yet bit the bullet and picked some up, hopefully this bundle will convince you to pull the trigger. They are pretty deadly on the battlefield.
Just as with former Dawnbringers saga protagonists, such as Belthanos First Thorn Of Kurnoth, Abraxia will no doubt be released as a single model down the line.
Brand’s Oathbound
And now the oddball. With the recently released Darkoath Army Set, your new Conan flavoured recruits could do with some buddies, right? Well how about another entire unit. One which hasn’t previously been revealed, yet is still going to be available for pre-order this weekend.
Brand’s Oathbound is a vicious, hero-slaying warband of warriors led by the infamous Gunnar Brand. This set is deployed as three separate warscrolls with unique skills who join to form the unit seen in the Hammer and Bolter episode Monsters. They can be called added to any Grand Alliance Chaos faction in traditional Regiment of Renown fashion.
Darkoath: A Gunnar Brand Novel
Finally, we’re offered the opportunity to learn more about Gunnar Brand in Darkoath by Chris Thursten, a new novel that digs right into the lives and trials of a Darkoath warband. This novel will be available in hardback, eBook, and MP3 audiobook editions.
Additionally, the models included in the Darkoath Army Set will be available to purchase seperately. Coming pretty hot on the heels of the set itself, it seems like the last big push before we all start truly preparing for Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4.0. But then, getting the opportunity for another Wilderfiend isn’t exactly bad, eh?
