Jared Leto has claimed that he doesn’t think cinemas would still exist if it wasn’t for the Marvel movies. Given the recent shutdowns spurred on by the global Covid-19 pandemic, cinemas have been hit hard. Getting back on their feet has been a trying experience, but Leto believes that it’s the Marvel movies that may have saved them.
Leto rose to fame in the US after achieving recognition for his role as Jordan Catalano on the television series My So-Called Life. However, it wasn’t until the success of the debut album from his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, that Leto reached international fame.
Since then the actor and musician has had numerous roles in Hollywood blockbusters. These include Suicide Squad, Bladerunner 2049, House of Gucci and the forthcoming Morbius. Plus of course, his Oscar win for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Dallas Buyers Club.
In a recent interview ahead of the launch of the aforementioned Morbius, Leto was asked about the financial health of the film industry.
“If it wasn’t for Marvel films, I don’t even know if theatres would exist. It doesn’t seem like there’s room for everyone, and that starts to become a little heartbreaking.”

In the upcoming Morbuis, Leto will join the MCU in his first superhero role. Taking on the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, Leto plays biochemist who when trying to cure himself of a fatal disease inadvertently turns himself into a vampire. The actor has stated that he was drawn to the titular role in Morbius because the character is an “outsider”.
The film takes place in the same universe as the Venom and Spider-Man films. Michael Keaton will be reprising his role of Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Morbius also stars Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris and Doctor Who star Matt Smith.
A crossover with Tom Hardy’s Venom has also been teased in the film’s trailer, where the character is referenced. This trailer is currently being shown prior to the screening of The Batman in UK cinemas.
