Eastasisasoft is set to be the intriguingly retro styled Spacewing War to consoles next month. However, Spacewing War isn’t content with just looking like an 8-bit shooter; the game instead apes several handheld consoles.

Invaders from the Planet Mavros have descended on Earth to claim it as their new home, and it’s up to you to stop them. Spacewing War is a side-scrolling shoot-’em-up inspired by handheld genre classics. Presented in four-tone pixel art style, this space adventure blends light-hearted sci-fi storytelling and deceptively simple mechanics with the depth of weapon-juggling and tons of secrets to discover.

Developed by Pneuma Games, Spacewing War features a wide variety of unique shot types. From simple blasters to boomerang projectiles, you’ll have the tools needed to tackle puzzling stage obstacles and massive bosses. Players can customise their experience with 40 colour palettes, unlock campaigns as you progress and discover unexpected twists as the interstellar tale unfolds.

Spacewing War will feature seven levels, with new campaigns unlocked as you progress. The game promises a number of secrets to find for added replayability. Publisher Eastasiasoft recently had success with the well received Z-Warp, so here’s hoping they can repeat that. Pneuma Games on the other hand, bills themselves as the following:

“Pneuma Games is (so far) a spanish Indie developer making videogames such as SPACEWING WAR, a Game Boy themed Shoot em Up, and hoping someone will play it.”

Somewhat less confident than their publisher, then!

Gamers that do play their game will traverse star fields, cloudy skies, choppy tropical coastlines and more in this love letter to old-school handheld action games. Spacewing War will launch on console 8th June, 2022. The game is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
