Indie developer BlackChiliGoat Studio released its award-winning thriller TAPE: Unveil the Memories last year for PC and PlayStation 5. Soon it’ll be the turn of Nintendo Switch, with a launch date now locked in by publisher Gammera Nest for 14th April 2023.
Set in 1990s northern Spain, this is an adventure mystery with horror elements. You play Iria, a girl from a small town called Antumbria who one day receives a VHS tape from her father asking for help. This involves using a special video camera to explore memories, rewinding them, and fast-forwarding or pausing them. All in a bid to discover her family’s dark secrets.
TAPE: Unveil the Memories gameplay
Iria’s father is a famous horror film director and so many elements in the game build upon this narrative. Locations twist and contort as you dig deeper into her memories, providing an atmospheric world to explore. There are strong horror cinema vibes throughout the videogame, highlighting the fact the genre had a significant influence on Iria growing up.
You’ll be able to utilise the camera’s abilities to affect, not only the world around you but the objects in it. Moving doors to create new passageways or twisting the environment to unlock new areas.
TAPE: Unveil the Memories was awarded the most innovative game at the PlayStation Awards 2017 and best narrative design at the DevJuego 2022 awards. It’ll launch for Nintendo Switch on 14th April retailing for $19.99 USD. Check out the new Switch trailer below.
It’s no surprise that BlackChiliGoat Studio brought its horror title to Nintendo Switch. The console is now the third best-selling ever, surpassing 122.55 million sales since its 2017 launch.
