Puzzle adventure Tin Hearts is coming to multiple consoles this spring and developer Rogue Sun has unveiled a glimpse into the creation process. Releasing the first in a series of Tin Hearts ‘Making of’ documentary episodes, the opening episode focuses on what exactly is Tin Hearts.

Right from the word go, it is easy to see the Lemmings inspiration behind the videogame. Gameplay revolves around tiny, animatronic soldiers who march away to their heart’s content. However, their path is fixed and they will not deviate from it. That’s where you come in, manipulating the scenery to alter their path and get them home.

But Tin Hearts is more than just forcing robotic soldiers to walk in a particular direction. At its core is a narrative that the team describe as “very nostalgic, with charm”. Described as “a tale of family loss and redemption” featuring “love and compromise while you’re solving puzzles”, those little guys are the creation of Albert J. Butterworth, a genius inventor from an alternate-timeline Victorian universe.

As the episode explains, Rogue Sun originally started development in 2016, not long after the studio was founded. The idea was to create a small game initially for virtual reality headsets. Over the years the project grew and expanded onto new platforms, offering more players the chance to try the delightful adventure.

Being published by Wired Productions, Tin Hearts is scheduled to launch on 20th April. It’ll support PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Utomik), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox consoles. A physical edition of the game will also be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
