The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is set to arrive this autumn. The package is launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both physically and digitally, and also to PC via Steam. It’s an impressive package – there’s no doubt about that. However, there is one obvious omission that is a significant disappointment.

Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1 Contents

All of this will be available in a single package priced at $59.99 USD. A bargain by anyone’s standards. Plus, each title can be purchased separately for just $19.99. Great if you already own the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

So, what could possibly be wrong with this package? Well, it’s the simple exclusion of one of the best videogame remakes ever made.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Yup, you guessed it. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes was released back in 2004, exclusively for the GameCube. The game featured graphical improvements over the original, along with new cutscenes written and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura. Furthermore, additional gameplay functions originally introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were brought into the original game.

Developed by Silicon Knights, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes was met with significant critical acclaim at launch. Some detractors have argued that the additional functionality imbalanced the game, while others cherish the improved AI and new combat options.

Since it’s debut, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes has been re-released a total number of zero times. That’s right. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes was and is only available for the Nintendo GameCube.

Vol. 2, Perhaps?

Perhaps. Maybe. Doubtful, though. Rumours are already circulating as to what could be included in a second Metal Gear Solid repackaging. While far from confirmed, it’s currently expected to be the following:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

That’s another great collection. Just as with Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has only ever been released on one system: PlayStation 3.
