The Stormcast Eternals are the poster boys of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. The ‘good guys’, if ever there were any in the Warhammer universe, they are the invention of Sigmar himself. However, just like every faction, they have their own foibles. Death may not come easy, but when it does it is punishing to their souls. Still, they are widely thought to be a good starting point for the game, so here’s a handy guide for how to build a Stormcast Eternals army!

Getting Started with a Stormcast Eternals Army

For this guide on how to build a Stormcast Eternals Army, we’ll start right at the beginning. The best place to begin with a new Stormcast Eternals army is the new Harbinger starter set. This set includes both Stormcast Eternals and Kruleboyz. “But I don’t want the Kruleboyz!” I hear you say. That may be true, but this set still works out cheaper than buying the Stormcast Eternals units separately! That is, if you can even find a Lord Imperatant with Gryph Hound separately.

The Harbinger starter set is priced at £65 GBP through Games Workshop, however the link above will take you to Element Games where you can purchase it for just £48.75!

  • 3 x Praetors (165 points)

For completion’s sake, here’s everything else that’s also included!

Stormcast Eternals Army List for Beginners

You may have noticed the above Stormcast Eternals have a ‘points’ amount listed next to them. In case you weren’t already aware, everything in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar has a points value. For a beginner’s army, we want to aim for 1,000 points.

The Harbinger starter set gives us 470 points, so we’re nearly halfway there! To round out the 1,000 points, you’ll want to make a few additional investments…

Stormcast Eternals Lord Castellant

Lord Castellant (155 points)

The Lord Castellant is a support hero who’s mostly included for a singular ability: Warding Lantern. In your hero phase either pick one Stormcast Eternals unit wholly within 18” and give them a +1 to save rolls; or an enemy unity wholly within 18”. If you pick an enemy unit roll a dice, on a 2+ the target suffers D3 mortal wounds.

A nice buff to your units, or an easy roll for mortal wounds? A flexible ability like this isn’t particularly common, and can often turn the tide of a competitive action.

Stormcast Eternals Vindicators

Vindicators (130 points)

Yes, you already have a unit of Vindicators in the Harbinger starter set. But you’re going to want another one! These basic troops have two wounds apiece, a 2” range and a 3+ save. They have also have two attacks each, with a mortal wound on an unmodified roll of 6. They can both hit hard and take a beating.

Stormcast Eternals Annihilators

Annihilators (240 points)

The last additional purchase will be your hammer unit. The Annihilators cause mortal wounds when they do just about anything! And with the Lord Castellant to support them you can improve their save to 2+, making their three wounds much harder to remove.

So, finally, here’s the list in full:
