Square Enix has announced that it will publish The Apothecary Diaries light novel series in English-language print editions for the first time. Volume 1 will be releasing in May 2024, as a part of the company’s Square Enix Books imprint.

In The Apothecary Diaries, a palace servant named Maomao has been trained in herbal medicine. She is suddenly promoted up the ranks to food taster, and right into the thick of imperial intrigue in this period mystery series.

Though she looks ordinary, Maomao has a quick wit, a sharp mind, and an extensive knowledge of medicine. In her new position, Maomao starts to learn about everything that goes on in the rear palace. Not all of it seemly.

The Apothecary Diaries is a bestselling light novel series, with more than 21 million copies to date in print and digital worldwide. The series has been adapted into both manga, and a forthcoming anime. Volumes 1 through 9 of the manga series are currently available in English from the Square Enix Manga imprint in both print and digital editions.
