How to beat Terror of the Deep in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

As stated above, Terror of the Deep has a variety of different attack patterns. Before you begin it’s best to learn about the weaknesses of the boss so you can make best use of your openings.

Terror of the Deep Weaknesses, Resistances, and Immunities

WeaknessesLightning.
Lesser ResistancesFire, Petrify, Stop.
Greater ResistancesIce.
ImmunitiesProportional Damage, Berserk, Morphable Items, Slow, Silence, Sleep, Stone.
Absorbed ElementsNone

Terror of the Deep is particularly weak to Thunder Spells. Ensure that you have Thunder Materia equipped before beginning. You can use any variant of Thunder while the boss is in the water to deal a large amount of damage.

In the Junon Episode demo, Barret comes equipped with Thunder Materia. He’s a good choice for a teammate to bring down Terror of the Deep with relative ease.

Now, with that out of the way, let’s get stuck into the boss’ attacks!

Tail Swipe

An easy vulnerability is the Terror of the Deep’s tail fin. Whenever it attempts to swipe at you with the tail fin execute an Ability. This will deal massive damage to it and – more often than not – stun it. It’ll be immobile for a few seconds, allowing you to execute some strong attacks.

Grab Attack

Occasionally the imposing enemy will grab a member of your party. There’s no massive damage dealing counter here, but there is an opportunity to escape quickly. Simply execute an Ability to immediately release your party member. Once again, this will likely stun the beast. Be ready with Unique attacks to follow-up.

Water Cell

The Water Cell is arguably the most powerful attack in Terror of the Deep’s arsenal. Party members hit by it will not only take damage, but will also be bound and thus unusable until freed. Switch to another party member and use spells to destroy the Water Cell. You can use regular attacks, but spells will do significantly more damage.
