Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been sitting pretty atop the Nintendo Switch best sellers list for over three months now. There’s no denying that the game has been a runaway success. But now a new challenger has arrived, and that is Minecraft Dungeons.

For the first time since launch, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is longer top of the best selling list on the Nintendo eShop. That’s not to diminish it’s success – indeed, at the time of writing retail prices for the game remain higher than the normal selling price – however Minecraft Dungeons brings with it greater brand recognition.
Minecraft Dungeons is a step aside for the hugely popular franchise. Involving zero building (outside of levelling-up your character) Minecraft Dungeons is a simplified take on the Diablo action-RPG formula. It’s versatility in offering both on- and offline multiplayer and inherent accessibility has made it an easy option for friends and family wanting to play together.
It’s expected that Minecraft Dungeons will see even greater success when considering all formats. The game is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. Conversely, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

The latest UK Chart retail figures are expected to be published today, later followed by North America. If Minecraft Dungeons can take the top spot across all formats internationally it would certainly be a big win.
