Amongst the many puzzle games and platformers, eastasiasoft’s repertoire includes some real gems. Demoniaca: Everlasting Night was a surprising title, quickly becoming one of the best metroidvania’s in recent years. Now it looks like the publisher is setting up to do it again with Valeria the Pagan Priestess.
In Valeria the Pagan Priestess, players the role of the brutal, pretty and foul-mouthed heroine Valeria. She’s on a journey through a land ravaged by monster hordes. It’s kill or be killed as Valeria uses swords, bombs, magic and more to survive and slay creatures while rescuing maidens and gathering loot.
Players will explore a vast overworld map, rolling back the fog of war to discover dozens of unique locations. Towns and caravans will provide respite from deep side-scrolling stages. Valeria will need to traverse deserts, caverns, acid pools and other hazardous landscapes. This brutal world works both ways, and if Valeria fails or hesitates in dealing death, she could quickly face a gruesome end by monstrous hands.
In typical metroidvania fashion, players can unlock and upgrade abilities, find new weapons and armour, and ramp up their combat abilities. However, the game also promises the opportunity to ride beasts, execute vicious combos and dismember enemies with ultra-violent style.
All that ‘ultra-violent’ note, developer GauchoBot has offered the following warning label:
“This game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Some Nudity or Sexual Content, Frequent Violence or Gore, General Mature Content.”
Intriguing.
