After its CinemaCon 2023 tease, new details are beginning to emerge regarding Beetlejuice 2. Directed by Tim Burton, Warner Bros. has now said Beetlejuice 2 is slated for a 2024 release date. New cast members are also reportedly in discussions, with Monica Bellucci expected to join alongside Jenna Ortega.
Beetlejuice 2 Release Date
When it comes to Beetlejuice 2’s release date, Variety reports this will take place on 6th September 2024. This also happens to be the same day as Marvel’s new iteration of Blade. At present, the release calendar around that time remains quiet, so the return of Michael Keaton’s darkly funny Betelgeuse could be a welcome boost for theatres.
New cast members
When Beetlejuice 2 was announced it was reported that several of the original main cast would be returning. That includes Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. New to the mix will be Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Ryder’s character Lydia.
Adding to that ensemble, The Hollywood Reporter says that Monica Bellucci (Mafia Mamma, The Matrix, Spectre) is in discussions to join the cast. It’s rumoured that Bellucci will play Beetlejuice’s wife. Also rumoured to be making an appearance is Justin Theroux.
Currently, no plot details have been revealed but at least Beetlejuice is official finally.
Being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B, production is expected to begin this month in London. The screenplay has been penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. They also worked with Burton on Wednesday. Burton directed the first four episodes of the popular Netflix show, catapulting Ortega to stardom. It saw the Addam’s Family send her off to boarding school where she was taught by 90s Wednesday actor Christina Ricci.
