Director John Woo is known for his epic action movies. He initially made a name for himself in Hong Kong films such as The Killer and Hard Boiled. Then in the 90s, he carved out a place in Hollywood with hits like Broken Arrow, Face/Off and Mission: Impossible 2. It has been two decades since his last Hollywood outing, with Silent Night ending that trend this year. And now the first trailer for Silent Night is here.
Starring Joel Kinnaman, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Silent Night is a classic revenge thriller. As you’ll be able to tell from this first trailer, Silent Night contains all the John Woo magic fans know and love. Teamed up with the producer of John Wick and fans can expect some epic action for the holidays.
Silent Night
“A gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve,” the synopsis explains. “While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.”
With that lack of a voice, Kinnaman has virtually no dialogue throughout the film. Very much in a similar fashion to Mute starring Alexander Skarsgård. Just with more guns, blood, explosions and ridiculous set pieces.
“Very interesting movie. The whole movie is without dialogue,” Woo told Vulture. “It allowed me to use visuals to tell the story, to tell how the character feels. We are using music instead of language. And the movie is all about sight and sound. The budget was a little tight, and the schedule was tight, but it made me change my working style.”
Silent Night will be in cinemas from 1st December 2023. Check out the new trailer below. Or for more action films don’t miss Argylle.
