Famous detective Hercule Poirot is renowned for solving complex puzzles but rarely do they involve the occult. Ghosts and other supernatural occurrences are front and centre in Poirot’s latest outing. As you can see in the new Haunting in Venice trailer. And once again, Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as the master sleuth.

Taking on the character for a third time, Branagh will also direct this new adaption of Agatha Christie’s detective. For this latest instalment, Branagh will be joined by Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), playing an old friend and psychic respectfully.

Based on the 1969 Christie novel Hallowe’en Party, the synopsis explains: “Set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, A Haunting in Venice is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.”

As you can tell from the first official Haunting in Venice trailer, this instalment has a strong horror element to it. Poirot’s not only dealing with a murder, he seems to encounter the supernatural as well.

Branagh, Fey and Yeoh are joined by a strong cast. They include Kyle Allen (Rosaline), Camille Cottin (Call My Agent), Jamie Dornan (Belfast), Jude Hill (Belfast), Ali Khan (6 Underground), Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone), and Riccardo Scamarcio (Caravaggio’s Shadow).

Head to theatres on 15th September to see A Haunting in Venice. Or for a true horror experience Pet Sematary: Bloodlines lands in October.
