Warner Bros. Discovery and NetherRealm Studios have officially revealed the next installment in the Mortal Kombat series. As expected, Mortal Kombat 1 is a reboot of the series. However, alongside the announcement comes an unexpected release date reveal: September 2023.
The official reveal offers quite a few details on the game. As expected, a comprehensive Story Mode will be included. Frankly, after Mortal Kombat 11‘s time changing shenanigans, they had to go somewhere entirely new.
“Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities!”
There’s also the confirmation that the game will feature cameo fighters. However, no names have been mentioned as of yet.
Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer
The debut trailer for the game has arrived alongside the announcement. It features infamous characters such as Raiden, Kung Lao and more. It’s a story based teaser trailer, so don’t expect any of the in-game action just yet.
Mortal Kombat 1 Pre-Order
Should you wish to bite the bullet and pre-order early, there’s a special incentive awaiting you. Classic Mortal Kombat character Shang Tsung will be playable from day one.
Currently, the only other confirmed returning character is Liu Kang. Artwork for the new look of Scorpion and Sub Zero has been revealed, however.
Mortal Kombat 1 Release Date
The game will arrive on 19th September, 2023. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The release date is far closer than expected. It means that 2023 is quite a bumper year for fighting game fans, with Street Fighter 6 also releasing in June.
