UK studio Wreck Tangle Games has announced Quintus and the Formidable Curse, sequel to 2022’s Quintus and the Absent Truth. The game is currently in development and aims to significantly improve on its predecessor with a while bunch of new gameplay mechanics.
As with the first game, many puzzles throughout require the player to jump from being human to being a mouse. In the original game these were introduced as separate levels or scenes within the game. However, in Quintus and the Formidable Curse, this mechanic is now fully scripted, allowing the player to change to being Quintus when they deem necessary.
Furthermore, Quintus isn’t the only mouse in town anymore. Alan and Quintus now have four additional mouseketeers to help on their travels. Each mouse is connected with a natural element which can be used for various puzzles throughout the game. This new mechanic will allow for more detailed puzzles that require some extra thought.

In a surprising addition, a combat system is also being introduced in this sequel. The game’s darker plot and dangers have made it necessary for Alan to fight his way through some areas. Clutching to any item he can get his hands on, enemies may be lurking around any corner. It all sounds a bit Condemned, and Alan must be prepared.
Combat mainly consists of swinging a bat or pipe. However, as you progress Alan will be able to ask for help from some of his new mouse friends. The wind mouse for help will lift the enemies into the air, the fire mouse can burn them, and the electric mouse can electrify the enemies.
The unique visual art style from the original makes a return, as it has been highly improved with more detailed graphics and enhanced colors.
Quintus and the Formidable Curse Launch Plans
The original game released on PC and consoles in 2022. Chit Hot’s review of Quintus and the Absent Truth stated: “You’ll spend much of your time fumbling around in the dark – both literally and metaphorically – as you attempt to find the key item (pun intended) to progress to the next area. It’s a very simple formula and one which, on paper, doesn’t sound like anything worth writing home about. However, Quintus and the Absent Truth‘s greatest success is in building atmosphere.”
Hopes are high that this sequel can live up to the expectations the first title set, but ultimately failed to deliver upon. While no release date has been shared yet, this is one mouse to keep your eyes on.

The game has been confirmed for launch on PC. There’s not yet been confirmation of a console launch, but given that the original title also made it’s way to consoles we wouldn’t be surprised if that was on the agenda, too.
