It has been an unsettled year for superhero movies. The likes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Flash have been duds with audiences, whilst the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. When it comes to all things Spidy, Sony Pictures Entertainment seems to be on a role, and that might continue with the upcoming release of Kraven The Hunter.
The movie is an original story for Kraven the Hunter, a well-known villain of Spider-Man who also becomes a member of the supervillain team the Sinister Six in the comics. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character is going to be a bloody instalment thanks to its R-rating. Unlike other Spidey spinoffs Venom and Morbius which were expected to be R-rated but ended up being PG-13.
Kraven The Hunter Trailer
As you can see from the trailer Kraven the Hunter could be a very visceral entry into the Marvel universe. While the villain is best known for his vendetta against Spider-Man, there were only hints at that possible future. Instead, the film will focus on how Sergei Kravinoff became Kraven, with a tagline: “Villains aren’t born — they’re made.”
Russell Crowe stars as Kravinoff’s brutal father, who leaves his son to die when he’s attacked by a lion. He survives and in classic Marvel fashion becomes embued with enhanced strength, speed, agility, stamina and longevity. Kraven becomes a murderous menace thanks to his abilities and expert use of weapons.
Famed for the phrase “Once you’re on his list, there’s only one way off,” Kraven the Hunter is directed by J.C. Chandor. Alongside Taylor-Johnson and Crowe, the film also features Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Fred Hechinger.
Kraven the Hunter is set to make its theatrical debut on 6th October 2023.
