May will see the third installment of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series. And it seems as though at least one of the actors is happy this particular story is ending. Ex-WWE star turned actor Dave Bautista has admitted in a recent interview that he’s relieved to be saying goodbye to Drax.

Speaking to GQ, Bautista expressed his love for the character but also his dislike of Drax’s creation process. “I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him,” Bautista explained. “But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy—it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Drax was Bautista’s first major role, igniting his acting career for six movies, and a holiday special, over the course of nine years. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also see director James Gunn take a step back from the MCU as he’s now the co-leading of DC Studios.

As for Bautista’s future roles, he’d like to work with Denis Villeneuve again, who he previously collaborated with on Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. “If I could be a number one [on the callsheet] with Denis, I would do it for fucking free,” he says. “I think that’s how I could find out how good I could be. He brings out the best in me. He sees me in a different light, sees the performer that I want to be. That might be how I solve the puzzle.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming to theatres on 5th May 2023.
