After the theatrical flop that was The Flash, the pressure is now on to make sure Superman: Legacy isn’t. The film that’s set to kickstart DC Studios’ new DC Universe in 2025, new details have emerged regarding the casting of the main roles. Written and directed by DC Studios head James Gunn, he’s reportedly held screen tests with a number of actors for the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Superman: Legacy Casting Details
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn held screen tests over the weekend of 17th/18th June with six actors in predetermined pairs. They were Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey. They were given several scenes, all of which revolved around the Kent and Lane characters.

Hoult, Brittney and Corenswet then returned the following day for another series of screen tests, all decked out as Superman. Only Mackey was asked to return as Lois, interestingly, the report notes.
The role of Superman is not an easy one to fill, especially after Henry Cavill played the role so well. Actors taking on the character have to evoke that farmboy from Kansas origin whilst serving up a believable portrayal of a reporter at The Daily Planet. Then there’s the third starring persona, Superman himself, and all the muscular heroics he gets up to.
Warner Bros. executives will then decide on who to cast, which is likely to be made quite soon. Just as pivotal is the shortlist for villain Lex Luthor. Alexander and Bill Skarsgard have been mentioned as well as Nicholas Hoult again – so he might be in the film one way or another.
Furthermore, Superman: Legacy won’t be an origin movie. He’ll be joining a world already filled with heroes including a supergroup called the Authority. So there, are all those roles to fill as well.
One thing is for sure, the whole success of the new DC Universe rides on the success of Superman: Legacy.
