The last Alien film to grace theatres was director Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant back in 2017. Fans of the franchise have awaiting news regarding its sequel ever since. Instead, last year it was revealed that director Fede Álvarez was working on a new Alien movie with Scott producing. Recently, Álvarez confirmed that filming has now wrapped up.
Taking to Instagram, Álvarez simply posted an image of himself captioned: “Time for a celebratory cigar, it’s a wrap!” Details regarding the upcoming film have been kept largely a secret, all we know for sure is that it’s slated for release on 16th August 2024.

Aliens return
In regards to the storyline, the only teasing details are that: “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” That doesn’t really give us much to go on. More specifically, which route Álvarez plans on taking the franchise and how original it might be.
Will it go down the James Cameroon path in Aliens, dispensing with a lot of horror elements in favour of action? Or, because Scott is producing, will we see a return to a grittier, spine-chilling movie like the 1979 original? Hopefully, we’ll get a teaser trailer sooner rather than later.
The new Alien movie will feature a cast of upcoming film stars. These include Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Over the years the Alien franchise has had its ups and downs, with the first two films the most highly regarded. Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection became even more action-oriented, whilst prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant offered mixed results.
