A new single-player FPS game is pretty rare amongst all the multiplayer-orientated titles launching in modern times. The genre certainly has fallen out of favour since it’s peak in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 era. With that, any new title entering the field should be looked at with interest. However, Ad Infinitum is one in particular that’s caught our attention.
Ad Infinitum is a first-person survival horror game with a focus on atmosphere and story. In an unusual twist, players will experience the great war from the perspective of a german soldier. We’re not sure if this has ever been done before in a single-player FPS game, but a small amount of research suggests not.
“In this surreal war-torn nightmare, you must overcome pain, despair, and corruption while fighting for your life and sanity.”
The game synopsis certainly sounds interesting. However, Ad Infinitum is still a far cry from a realistic attempt to recreate the thoughts, feelings and emotions of a German soldier at the time.

Ad Infinitum Story Details
The game begins as you wake up in your bedroom, unchanged from your teenage years. Suddenly and inexplicably, you are transported to the trenches. The horrors of war are overshadowed by vile and even more terrifying creatures. Unable to distinguish between reality and nightmare, you must fight to regain control of your life’s narrative.
As you can tell from the above (and surely the images in this article), Ad Infinitum isn’t simple a military shooter. Players must overcome terrifying creatures and solve the puzzles as they attempt to retake control of their sanity. From blind demons who can hear your softest footsteps to hideous disjointed puppets who move in the dark, the game’s horror vibe is strong.

FPS Gameplay
While you play a German soldier haunted by horrors of the Great War, you’ll experience all manner of combat challenges. However, as mentioned above, it’s not all shooty shooty. To escape the death traps and terrifying creatures you must learn and understand each monster and their motivations. Furthermore, through exploration and puzzle solving between your home and the barbed wire of No Man’s Land, you’ll learn more about your family’s past and the source of the horror.
Developed by NACON, a studio which has significant experience with FPS games and is also developing the upcoming RoboCop: Rogue City, hopes are high that the gunplay can be balanced with the puzzling element of the game.
Ad Infinitum is due to launch in September, 2023. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Let us know in the comments below if you’ve got your eye on this one!
