At the moment it can be hard to keep up with the constant ebbs and flows of the movie industry. Productions are being postponed whilst releases are being moved left and right. The latest to be upended is The Exorcist: Believer, which premieres sooner than expected. But not because of the current strikes engulfing Hollywood, this time it’s all about musical icon Taylor Swift.

The Exorcist: Believer was originally due to hit theatres on 13th October 2023. The Hollywood Reporter notes that it has been moved up to 6th October, all because of a concert film from Swift’s Eras tour. AMC Theatres, the largest theatre chain in the US, struck a deal with her team to distribute the film. They’ve likely rushed this through due to the dwindling Autumn release schedule which has seen the likes of Dune: Part Two pushed into 2024.

A week less to wait

While The Exorcist: Believer release didn’t technically need to be moved – films often launch on the same day as each other – there is another reason. It was relocated to 6th October because of the fan overlap, namely younger women who form a core part of each fanbase.

Coincidently, that date was previously earmarked for Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter. Sony pushed the release back to 30th August 2024. If you’ve somehow been blissfully unaware, the current SAG-AFTRA strikes have meant that actors in the union aren’t promoting any films. The strikes are for fairer equity for all members but this has also meant no work of any kind unless a special waiver is granted by the union.

Swift is part of SAG-AFTRA, so the concert movie managed to obtain a waiver.

The Exorcist: Believer carries on from the original 1973 film. However, this time around it features two girls who are now possessed. Once again it’s the demonic presence of Pazuzu causing the issue. Plus we get to see Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprising her role as Chris MacNeil.

The Exorcist: Believer premieres in just over a month, will you be going? Let us know in the comment below.
