Mortal Kombat 1 is almost upon us. The game is due to launch in leas than two weeks, and with it is bringing a host of new features to the series. However, one returning asset raised some eyebrows during the recent Mortal Kombat 1 beta. Here’s all the details on the Mortal Kombat 1 Quitality: what it means, and how it works.
The Mortal Kombat series is famous for it’s Fatalities. From the very first edition of the game they have been a mainstay of the series, appearing in every title bar Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. They’ve been accompanied by all sorts of oddities – babalities, anyone? – but the Quitality takes on a significantly different form.
What is a Quitality in Mortal Kombat?
A Quitality is not an end of match input. It does not occur once the ‘Finish Him/Her!’ sequence begins. Instead, Quitality is an automatic punishment.
A Quitality is only triggered during an online multiplayer match. When a player leaves a match in the middle of a Mortal Kombat 1 fight, a Quitality will occur. This is signposted by a dimming of the light, and the player who has quit the match will suddenly have their character commit suicide.
Each character has a unique Quitality animation (both the remaining player and that which leaves), and if the player quits in the middle of a combo an explosive animation can be triggered. Shortly after, a Quitality graphic and announcer voice will signifying the other player quitting.
Does a Quitality Count as a Win?
Yes, a Quitality in Mortal Kombat 1 counts as a win for the remaining player. Furthermore, if it happens at the beginning of a round, the remaining player can be awarded a Flawless Victory.
Mortal Kombat 1 Launch Date
Now that we’ve had a Mortal Kombat 1 stress test and beta, the only thing that remains is to actually launch the game! Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on 19th September, 2023. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
