Fighting fans have got a lot to be excited about in 2023. Today sees the launch of Street Fighter 6 whilst Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the franchise in September. Ahead of that launch developer NetherRealm Studios will be running a Mortal Kombat 1 beta and a new online stress test.

Ahead of the official launch is offering players a couple of chances to test a limited build of the game. Whilst the August closed beta is only available to those who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1, the online stress test is slightly different.

Mortal Kombat 1 Stress Test

The Mortal Kombat 1 stress test is available to all. And just like the recent Diablo IV server slam, is designed to stress online services in preparation for the launch.

There are some limitations to the online stress test. As detailed in NetherRealm’s FAQ, the test is not a beta. You’ll need a Warner Bros. Games account to participate in the test, and it’s only available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners in North America, Latin America, Brazil, and Europe. If you wish to participate you can sign-up here.

No date has been set for the test at the moment. Furthermore, NetherRealm also adds that: “The test will support 1 vs. 1 online multiplayer, as well as a limited single-player Klassic Towers mode against A.I. opponents.” However, cross-platform play will not be supported during the stress test.

Aside from the videogame, the Mortal Kombat 2 film is gearing up for production. It’s set to star Karl Urban as martial arts movie star Johnny Cage, it’ll also include Tati Gabrielle as Jade. It’ll continue the story from the 2021 film, previous cast members Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson are expected to return.

Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Switch on 19th September 2023.

Have you pre-ordered or are you going to try the stress test first? Let us know in the comments below.
