The recent announcement of Mortal Kombat 1 has certainly grabbed many people’s attention. It’s been a whirlwind of rumours, leaks and, of course, some actual news. We already know the plot, the release date, the formats the game’s coming on, and now we have some fresh details on the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 beta.

To bring you up to speed, Mortal Kombat 1 is being positioned as a ‘soft reboot’ of the series. The game sees the iconic Liu Kang having become a god after reshaping the world. And so, the battle between Earthrealm and Outworld begins again.

We’ll see the return of classic characters in Mortal Kombat 1. This includes Shang Tsung, who is available as a pre-order incentive. However, there are more bonuses available to those who pre-order, including access to the Mortal Kombat 1 beta.

Mortal Kombat 1 Beta Release Date

The closed beta has been scheduled for August, 2023. No specific date has yet been revealed, however. This will be a closed beta, and as such you’ll need to pre-order the game to gain access.

Mortal Kombat 1 Beta Access

As stated above, accessing the beta will require pre-ordering the game. However, you don’t need to pre-order the fancy Collector’s Edition. In fact, you don’t even need to pre-order the Premium Edition. Literally a pre-order of any version of Mortal Kombat 1 will be enough to secure your place.

That being said, there’s also the ‘early access’ period to consider. If you pre-order the Collector’s or Premium Edition, you’ll get one week of early access to future DLC characters. This is essentially a beta for new additions that will come later down the line.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 be on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. Mortal Kombat 1 will only be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. That also means no PC release.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set for release on 19th September, 2023. Have you already placed your pre-order? Let us know in the comments below!
