If the latest cinematic offerings haven’t particularly tempted you because you’re after something quirky and whimsical don’t despair. Emma Stone’s (La La Land, Cruella) latest, Poor Things has both of those traits and more. All of which can be seen in the latest Poor Things trailer.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things will be the opening night film at the 31st edition of the Camerimage Film Festival. A movie that brings together facets of fairy tales, insanity, and horror, the feature has already received significant praise. During the Venice International Film Festival in September, it received a Golden Lion and is now tipped for great things during 2024’s award season.
Poor Things Extended Look
Alongside Stone, Poor Things stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott and Margaret Qualley.
As the synopsis details:
“From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the tale of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.“
Poor Things will open in cinemas on 8th December 2023. You can see the new extended-look Poor Things trailer below.
This isn’t the first time Stone and Lanthimos have worked together. They previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated The Favourite (2018). The film secured Stone an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
