The Ghostbusters franchise has seen a welcome resurgence over the past couple of years. We’ve had Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed in 2022 and most recently Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghostlord for VR headsets. Now movie fans have been treated to the brand new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
A sequel to Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire once again focuses on Egon Spengler’s family. But this time the film brings back some retro franchise goodness, returning to New York City and the Ghostbusters original firehouse. However, events take a frosty turn which facilitates the original gang getting back together.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Trailer
The story goes that the original Ghostbusters developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. However, when an ancient artefact unleashes an evil force the old and new gang must protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
Directed by Gil Kenan and written by Jason Reitman and Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees a familiar all-star cast. Carrie Coon returns as Callie, alongside Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), Trever (Finn Wolfhard) and Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson. They’ll be joined by Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim and Kumail Nanjiani.
Fans will also get a kick out of original Ghostbusters Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stanz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) suiting up once more. And let’s not forget that Annie Potts will also return as Janine Melnitz.
Sony seems to be doing more of a fan service with these latest instalments. After the poorly received Ghostbusters (2016) reboot, Afterlife went back to the franchise’s roots. Which definitely worked, the film grossed $204 million USD worldwide.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will open in theatres worldwide on 29th March 2024.
