Finish Line Games has unveiled its new title, Robots at Midnight. The game is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and is set for release in 2024.
Set in an expansive 1980’s Cassette Futurist world, Robots at Midnight is an action-RPG. The game features ‘intense combat, satirical robots, giant mechanical monsters’, according to Finish Line Games. That’s in addition to a ‘rich narrative discovered through exploration’.
Robots at Midnight follows Zoe, a scrappy and unlikely hero, as she searches and battles her way through the world of Yob, uncovering its secrets. Once a luxury destination now in ruins, Yob is an uninviting place overrun by robots – some friendly and others dangerous. Many have begun to evolve, evoking questions of what it means to be human.
Robots at Midnight is being developed by the same team that previously created popular indie games Skully, Maize, and Cel Damage HD. The game is a cosmic fantasy that features strategic, skill-based combat, and fluid movements – from climbing to dodging and flipping. The game will deliver risk-reward choices and RPG progression tied to character growth, as well as an ‘evocative’ storyline aiming to provoke introspection.

“The team is really excited to welcome people into this world we’ve been creating,” said Daniel Posner, CEO and co-founder of Finish Line Games. “We’re big fans of games that have combat that require persistence, which is where we first drew inspiration and then built this interconnected world filled with mechanical creatures, deep lore, humor, and characters that have heart and soul.”
The game is slated for release in 2024 on PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The studio has also stated that ‘other platforms will follow’. However, at present no information is available on which, nor when.
