The Bloodstained Series
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is metroidvania game which debuted in 2019. It was the second game to be released in the Bloodstained series. A retro-style companion game, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon released 2018. This companion game received a sequel, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, in 2020. A sequel to Ritual of the Night was announced to be in early development in June 2021.
The Bloodstained series has quite the pedigree behind it. Created by Japanese indie studio ArtPlay, the game’s development was led by former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi and is considered a spiritual successor to the series.
The game was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, in June 2019. This was followed by launches for Amazon Luna in October 2020, Android and iOS in 2020, and Stadia in 2021.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night DLC Content
Given the age of the game, it’s great to see ArtPlay are continuing to support it with new content. The headline of the new Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night DLC is the addition of two new gameplay modes.
The first new game mode, ‘Chaos Mode’, sends players into a series of randomised rooms populated with demons, with difficulty ramping up the longer you survive. The second, ‘Versus Mode’, is a fast-paced PvP mode against another player in a fight for survival. Online functionality for both modes also allows players to participate in co-op and multiplayer PVP.
Keeping on the lovely theme of ‘free’, the Shantae cosmetic pack gives Miriam everything she needs to dress up as Shantae, the Half-Genie Hero.
In addition to the free offerings comes some new premium DLC Cosmetic Packs. These are available for purchase on the game’s Store page, include the vampiric Succubus pack, Magical Girl pack, and the Japanese-inspired Japanesque pack. Each comes with a variety of weapons, costumes and accessories.
