Team17 Digital has announced that the first update for Ship of Fools is now available. The histrionic solo or two-player co-op roguelite’s first free update, Fish & Ships, opens the Great Lighthouse for exploration.
Developed by Fika Productions, Ship of Fools launched almost a year ago, in December 2022. The game is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. Upon release, it received significant praise for delivering a new take on a roguelite. Indeed, in Chit Hot’s own Ship of Fools review, we stated: “With the current trend for indie studios pushing the roguelite genre in new directions near every month, it would have been easy for Ship of Fools to become lost at sea. However, the unique attributes of the gameplay coupled with the co-op gameplay put it out in front.”
Ship of Fools ‘Fish & Ships’ Update
The landmark right at the heart of the game’s hub can now be visited. Doing so sets the anthropomorphic Fools on a journey to restore the building to its former glory. A series of increasingly difficult challenges awaits, and will test the most seasoned seafarers to their limits and provide a bounty of unique rewards.
Also arriving in the archipelago with this update is a brand-new character, ‘Otto, the reverse Kraken’. Otto can whip up three new pilotable ships. Each of which is equipped with its own unique ammunition, artefacts, and challenges for players to complete.
Players who can’t get enough of the Fools can also pick up the ‘Water Garden Duo’ and ‘Deep Sea Duo’ paid DLC packs on all platforms. ‘Water Garden Duo’ introduces a new fool-midable pair Mikoi and Noh, who can deal devastating damage with their sound blast attacks and lightning speed, whereas ‘Deep Sea Duo’ adds Angus and Jules to the crew, who can reduce reflected damage taken, and dredge the depths for trinkets.
