Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora launches tomorrow, 7th December, 2023. You’d be forgiven for not having realised this however, as the marketing machine doesn’t seem to have begun rolling just yet. One thing we have learned however, is that a day one patch is required to play the game. Yep, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be unplayable without this day one patch, even offline.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person action-adventure game set in the Western Frontier. Abducted by the human militaristic corporation known as the RDA, you, a Na’vi child, are trained and molded to serve their purpose. Following the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains, you are put into emergency cryosleep as the RDA evacuates Pandora.
You awake 15 years later in an abandoned facility and step onto Pandora, a stranger in your birthplace. You soon learn that the RDA is back, more dangerous than ever, and is once again threatening the flourishing ecosystems of Pandora and its clans.
The storyline sounds like an Avatar styled adaptation of the Fallout series, and we’re all up for that. However, no one here at Chit Hot has yet played the game, so the jury’s still out on whether or not it works. One thing we do know which doesn’t work, is the game. Without a day one patch, that is.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Day One Patch
Ubisoft has revealed that fans eager to play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be required to download a day one patch. This is necessary, whether or not you actually want to play online. The official communication follows below, verbatim from Ubisoft:
“The Day 1 patch is mandatory to start playing the game, therefore a one-time internet connection is required. After that, you will be able to play the game offline and enjoy the Western Frontier without an internet connection. If you want to team up in co-op, an internet connection is required.”
This may be a small hurdle for some, but a bigger issues for others. How do you feel about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora requiring a day one patch? Let us know in the comments below!
