Soft Source Publishing has announced the upcoming release DreadOut 2 on Nintendo Switch. Created by Indonesian developer Digital Happiness, DreadOut 2 debuted for PC back in 2020. The game was subsequently ported to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. Now, it’s the turn of Nintendo Switch owners to get in on the action.
The original DreadOut was crowdfunded project back in 2013. Since those humble beginnings, the IP has expanded into different mediums. From video games to comics and live-action movie adaptations. The DreadOut movie was released on Indonesian nationwide cinema and Netflix SEA region as well.
In DreadOut 2, players take on the role of Linda, a high school student with a supernatural ability. She can sense and see ghosts. Using this power, Linda must hunt the nightmarish spirits and dark forces that threaten not only her hometown, but all of humanity.
This sequel expands on the cult hit original with all-new melee combat and a greater emphasis on puzzles and exploration. You can use Linda’s smartphone as a weapon against the evil entities, setting DreadOut 2 apart from other horror releases. Players must hunt and defeat intangible ghosts with Linda’s smartphone camera, or use melee weapons and projectiles against physical ghosts. Keep your nerve as you battle the supernatural realm’s most hostile ghosts, including the chilling Kuntilanak, and horrifying Gore Surgeon.
But it’s not all about bustin’ ghosts. Players will explore Linda’s hometown and beyond. Talk with residents (both alive and dead), complete side-quests, and delve deeper into DreadOut lore. As you search out ghosts and urban legends, you’ll uncover local myths. File all of this information to complete the Ghostpedia app on Linda’s smartphone.
DreadOut 2 for Nintendo Switch
“With DreadOut 2, we really wanted to build on what makes this horror franchise unique,” said Rachmad Imron of Digital Happiness. “This sequel contains more Indonesian folklore found through its enemy design and throughout the story, and of course, plenty of emphasis on the smartphone mechanic. We’re excited that the game is coming to Switch, and we think that players will enjoy the many improvements over the original game.”
At present, DreadOut 2 will be a digital-only release on Nintendo Switch. The game will be available via the Nintendo eShop from 18th January, 2024. Are you excited for some supernatural action on your Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments below!
