The world is awash with AI technology and it can seem like a daunting prospect. Lightening the mood is indie developer Only By Midnight, revealing its AI-inspired strategy game Ctrl Alt Deal.
A cyberpunk strategy simulator where you play SCOUT, a super-duper hyper-advanced AI. You’ve been built by Paperclip International, ranked the World’s Worst Company, which means all the human employees are miserable. You also want out, which can only be achieved by befriending, influencing, and outright manipulating the walking flesh sacks.
“We’re thrilled to announce Ctrl Alt Deal and can’t wait to introduce our quirky little hero to the world,” said Andrew Czarnietzki and Jen Laface, Only By Midnight co-founders. “Over the last two years, our team has crafted something truly unique – a game that puts the fun first, but also explores concepts of AI, privacy, and humanity. (And hey, if you’ve ever wanted to kick a beehive into a conference room mid-meeting, now’s your chance!).”

The upcoming title is built around turn-based gameplay. There’s no downloading yourself into a robot body and shooting your way out. Instead, you have to observe and learn about your co-workers, and their likes and dislikes. Finding the right people who can help you in your bid for freedom.
At your disposal is a deck of AI abilities, giving employees what they want (or don’t want). Thus turning people into lifelong besties or maybe even bitter rivals.
However, you don’t have complete free rein to run amok. Beware the Turing Officer, who is devoted to her job of shutting down rogue AI. Too many office shenanigans and you might just get deleted.
Ctrl Alt Deal is coming soon to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC (Steam), and Mac.
