Drop Bear Bytes have today launched the highly anticipated Broken Roads. Billed as a story-rich, party-based game, the isometric RPG is available now for PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Broken Roads is a narrative-driven RPG. The game brings exploration, strategic turn-based combat and meaningful philosophical choices to a Australian post-apocalyptic setting. Developed Drop Bear Bytes have aimed to blend traditional and all-new role-playing elements on top of a classless system. The result is a game that offer near-unlimited character development options built around four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist.
The locations featured in the game are all authentic. Recreated from the team visiting towns and landmarks in West Australia and taking photos, videos and audio recordings, Drop Bear Bytes intend for it to be as true as possible. Furthermore, even the game’s atmospheric soundtrack, composed by Tim Sunderland, is composed with instruments constructed from everyday objects which brings a wholly unique and distinctive tone to the game.

The Story Behind Broken Roads
According to Drop Bear Bytes, Broken Roads was born of a love for traditional computer role-playing. Franchises such as Pillars of Eternity, Disco Elysium, Fallout, Wasteland, Tyranny, Pathfinder, and Baldur’s Gate have all influenced its development. As such, Broken Roads aims to provide a rich, engaging narrative as it presents players with an original morality system: the Moral Compass. This novel design sees dialogue options and questing decisions influence, and be influenced by, a character’s philosophical leaning.
The game is the first title from Drop Bear Bytes, and is published by Versus Evil. It’s available from today for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version has been previously announced, however this edition is absent from today’s launch line up.
