Parity Games’ debut title was announced quite some time ago. Originally set to launch in 2022, the game has suffered some quite significant delays. However, in that time it seems the developer has adopted another platform. In addition to the previously announced PlayStation 5 and PC editions, Island of Winds will now also be coming to Xbox consoles.
What is Island of Winds?
Island of Winds is an adventure game set in an original environment, inspired by 17th century Iceland. The developers have drawn upon the nature, folklore, and history of the region and era.
Parity Games promise an emotional journey in a game that explores themes of self doubt, violence, regret, and empathy. Brynhildur finds that her mentor has been abducted after an attack on her homestead, and embarks upon a quest to find them.
As she sets off in search of her missing mentor, she must utilise her magical abilities and restore balance to her fractured world. The Island’s secrets, as well as Brynhildur’s own complicated past, will slowly be revealed.
Adventure Gameplay
While the game is based on a real world location, the mythology of that place and era plays a big part in the proceedings. The core gameplay involves spellcasting, fantastical lore, and puzzles. A special focus is placed upon approaching encounters with empathy.
Island of Winds features a semi-open world environment. Within, you’ll find magical beasts inspired by Icelandic folklore. As you continue your adventure, you’ll find out what is plaguing the creatures of the island and help them find peace.

Island of Winds Launch Details
As stated above, Island of Winds is now confirmed for release on Xbox consoles. That’s in addition to the previously announced PlayStation 5 and PC versions of the game.
Despite originally being planned for launch in 2022, the game still has no firm release date. The Steam store page for the game has recently been updated to ‘coming soon‘, but that’s as much info as we have. Whether or not the console editions will launch alongside the PC version is not currently known.
