The announcement of a Nintendo Switch double pack for the classic Gothic titles was met with some excitement when announced last month. Despite already being available digitally, this package brings both titles together in physical form, and marks a significant saving on buying each individually. And from today, the Gothic Classic Khorinis Saga is available to purchase exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

What is the Gothic Classic Khorinis Saga?

The original Gothic debuted way back in 2001. Gothic II followed a year later, and in 2003 the critically acclaimed expansion Night of the Raven was added. The new Gothic Classic Khorinis Saga is a compilation of all of these titles delivered in a physical package for Nintendo Switch. Both Gothic Classic and Gothic II Classic launched via digital stores in 2023. However, this new release marks the first time a physical edition has been produced for Nintendo Switch.

This is not a ‘complete’ edition of the Gothic series, however. Gothic 3, which debuted in 2006, is not included. Nor is the upcoming remake of the original Gothic, which will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC later this year.

It’s understandable that the remake is skipping the Nintendo Switch due to hardware capabilities. However, exactly why THQ Nordic has decided not to give Gothic 3 the ‘classic’ treatment is unknown.

The package promises over 100 hours of RPG content. The first title was well received in 2001, and on Nintendo Switch has been updated to feature modern controls. Gothic II Classic Complete was reportedly an even bigger success, which lead to the Night of the Raven add-on.

As stated above, the new physical edition of Gothic Classic ties the first two games and the popular Night of the Raven add-on into one single release. Both titles are currently available individually via the Nintendo eShop. However, the pricing of this new package offers far greater value.

Gothic Classic is available at an SRP of €29.99/$29.99/£24.99, while Gothic II Complete Classic is available at an SRP of $29.99/€29.99/£24.99. The Gothic Classic Khorinis Saga is priced at €39.99 EUR/$39.99 USD/£34.99 GBP.

It’s a shame THQ Nordic hasn’t seen fit to give Gothic 3 the same ‘classic’ treatment. This title was also a commercial success, though it suffered from significantly harsher critical reception. Are you a fan of the Gothic series? Let us know in the comments below!
