Hot on the heels of the announcement of a new Maniac Mansion inspired retro adventure, developer Straynus has changed the game plan. By ‘changed’, we mean added to in a way that retro fans will love. Currently in development for PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Boy and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), the latter two editions are now set to receive physical cartridges.

What is Cronela’s Mansion?

A point-n’-click style retro adventure, Cronela’s Mansion takes place in – get this – a mansion. A story of witchcraft, lies, and betrayal is concealed within. The mansion harbors secrets, where the line between the real and the fantastic fades away.

Cronela’s Mansion is billed as a spiritual successor to Lucasfilms’ fan-favorite point-n’-click adventure, Maniac Mansion. Featuring open-world gameplay, players explore the fictional city of Rodsem Land along with the game’s titular mansion. You’ll have to solve puzzles, interact with a colourful cast of characters, and uncover the sprawling estate’s secrets.

The game will feature over 50 unique rooms to scour for clues, and tons of hidden easter eggs to uncover.

One week after announcing the game, retro-focused Spanish indie developer Straynus has unveiled the physical SNES and Game Boy cartridges for Cronela’s Mansion. These physical editions will be limited to 2,000 copies worldwide. The standard edition copies of Cronela’s Mansion are exclusive to backers of the upcoming Kickstarter campaign. This is set to launch at the end of the summer 2024.

Inside the physical box, you’ll find a cartridge for SNES or Game Boy, a full-color manual, a keychain, and a poster featuring a map of Rodsem Land, the fictional city where Cronela’s Mansion takes place.

In addition to the standard edition versions of Cronela’s Mansion, Kickstarter backers have the exclusive opportunity to secure Collector’s Edition copies. These special editions come with a host of bonus items, including an exclusive figure, a soundtrack, posters, stickers, and more.

Cronela’s Mansion Launch Plans

Given the fact that the Kickstarter campaign for the game hasn’t even launched yet, Cronela’s Mansion is still some way off from release. The different versions of the game will be compatible with NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PC, and Switch.
