3D Realms recently announced a new partnership to publish Pet Project Games’ sci-fi horror first-person shooter RIPOUT on PC. Following the official trailer (available below), the publisher has now confirmed RIPOUT PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are in development.

RIPOUT PlayStation 5

Powered by Unreal Engine, RIPOUT takes you on an action-packed fight for survival beyond Earth. After genetically engineering a powerful bioweapon to save itself from alien invaders, humanity falls victim to its own creation. You awaken in the year 2084 as one of Earth’s last surviving soldiers. Alone amongst the mutated monstrosities of mankind, will you safeguard our legacy… or will our species be forever consumed by the void?

RIPOUT PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S

RIPOUT PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will of course be very similar to the PC version of the game. As a sci-fi FPS, you can expect lots of lasers and big bad nasties. RIPOUT will also feature online co-op gameplay. Which is nice.

In RIPOUT, players will embark on dangerous missions and explore derelict spaceships. Every level is procedurally generated. A variety of objectives and enemy placements will add to both the tension of each level, and also the game’s replayability. The whole game can be played solo, or grab some friends for online co-op.

In a unique twist (possibly inspired by Rick and Morty‘s Shleemypants) your weapon is also a living being. It can transform and evolve in battle. Exactly how this will affect gameplay however, is yet to be seen.

RIPOUT’s visuals, atmosphere, soundtrack, creature designs and more are inspired by the classic retro vision of the best of ‘80s science fiction. RIPOUT PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC are all expected to launch later this year. No specific dates have yet been given for any version of the game.
