The Red Hot Chili Peppers are experiencing something of a resurgence of late. Anticipation for Red Hot Chili Peppers UNLIMITED LOVE, the new album now available to pre-order, is riding high. And with that, some fans are deciding to look back as well as forward.

One fan in particular, Miquel Camps Orteza, hasn’t just been looking back. Orteza has taken a very creative stance.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication Video

Californication, the title track from the band’s seventh studio album, is arguably one of their most famous. Most certainly in terms of the accompanying music video. In this 1999 release, digital versions of the band can be seen engaging in a variety of activities, such as snowboarding, swimming, and flying on a gigantic dragonfly. All of them intended to resemble videogames of the time.

Orteza didn’t just want to watch this music video however. He wanted to experience it.

The game has seven playable stages based on moments from the Californication video. You can select this by way of choosing a band member to play as. And throughout the game, you’ll be able to collect Red Hot Chili Peppers emblems.

Speaking about his inspiration for creating the game, Orteza said: “I wanted to play that game so bad! It’s 2022 and I haven’t seen anyone [make] the game, so I challenged myself to create it.”

“I have selected some epic moments from the video and turned into 7 levels each one with different game mechanics, I hope you like this game.

The game is available to download via Itch.io. It’s compatible with both Windows PC and mac0S. Orteza has stated that he would like to add more levels to his Californication game, but getting the game to mobile devices is now his top goal.
