16 months into the current generation, and the release schedule is finally starting to look sturdy. Recent months have brought us Elden Ring, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins, Horizon Forbidden West and numerous other big hitters. Along with that however, comes many games that risk falling through the cracks. Dolmen is one of these games. But Dolmen is a game you shouldn’t ignore.
Dolmen is a new action RPG that combines futuristic Sci-Fi and Cosmic Horror elements. Sound a bit like Dead Space? Well, in places it is. And it might well satisfy your hunger for space-based horror while you await the upcoming Dead Space remake. However, it’s not simply a case of Dolmen being a filler. This is a game that looks to offer something genuinely unique.
Dolmen – Scavenging on a Hostile Planet
The game throws players onto a hostile alien world known as Revion Prime. Your job? Bring back samples of a crystal with particularly unique properties; the so-called “Dolmen”. These crystals are capable of allowing interaction between realities, revolutionising space exploration and changing the known world forever. You are, in effect, a scavenger.
However, this isn’t going to be like foraging for food or finding sticks to light a fire. Revion Prime is a deadly planet, full of secrets for you to discover.
Dynamic Combat System
Players will grow stronger with each battle through a deep combat system. A variety of various weapons and moves will be at your disposal as you switch between melee and ranged combat to overcome the most challenging enemies Revion Prime has to offer. Energy management is key to victory; energy is not only used for ranged weapons, but also for activating “Energy Mode”. This mode imbues your melee weapons with elemental status effects, letting you take full advantage of your enemy’s weaknesses.
And you’ll need this to take down the huge bosses that you’ll meet.
Dolmen Release Date
Despite receiving no noteworthy hype, Deep Silver has pitched the release date of Dolmen perfectly. Arriving on 20th May 2022, the only direct competitors are Two Point Campus and Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. The latter of which has also received very little attention.
Dolmen will be made available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Various pre-order bonuses are available for the game.
