The cameos come thick-and-fast. But which are the best cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)? Chit Hot has endeavoured to look back through the series thus far – right up until MCU Phase 4 – and select the top seven celebrity appearances outside of the main cast.

Ruling out Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a tough decision. However, in a light-hearted article such as this it’s wise to avoid potential spoilers! Not everyone has Disney+, and not everyone has begun returning to the cinema just yet. So, on with the list!

7 Best Cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Matt Damon as Loki

Matt Damon in Thor: Ragnarok

Of course, coming in first is Matt Damon. His sudden and unexpected appearance in Thor: Ragnarok was certainly a crowd pleaser! Rumours that the actor will return in Thor Love and Thunder have been meet with equal fervour. After several delays, it not too long to wait to find out if those rumours are true…

Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) as Aaron Davis

Donald Glover

The Russo brothers were once part of the production team on a cult sitcom, Community. This sitcom was hailed as Donald Glover’s breakthrough, playing the role of Troy. Not ones to forget their friends, the Russo brothers have invited a number of actors to return in their later productions. Donald Glover made his appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming in the role of Aaron Davis, Miles Morales’ uncle. Fans of the Spider-Man series will no doubt guess where that role could be going…

Chris O’Dowd as Richard

Chris O'Dowd

Continuing with the sitcom actor theme for just a moment, Chris O’Dowd shot to fame in the UK TV show, The I.T. Crowd. In Thor: The Dark World, O’Dowd plays the role of Richard. A very brief appearance sees Richard on a date with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. The date does not go well.

Natalie Dormer as Lorraine

Natalie Dormer

The Game of Thrones star played a small role in Captain America: The First Avenger. Arguably more than a simple cameo, Natalie Dormer’s Lorraine provided Captain America with his canonical first kiss in the MCU. It didn’t go well for Lorraine, sadly. Let’s hope she found love somewhere else in the end.

Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord

Sylvester Stallone Marvel Cameo

The ’90s action hero Sylvester Stallone appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in the role of Stakar Ogord. Orgord is one of the leaders of the Ravagers, Yondu’s old crew. His appearance was so well received Stallone will reprise the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord

Michelle Yeoh - Best Cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Keeping it in the family, Michelle Yeoh has a brief MCU appearance. Yeoh plays an ex-Ravager and wife of Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord. She finds herself teaming up with her old comrades for a spin-off in the stars that we’ll probably never get to see. However, she also appears as Ying Nan in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. So, there’s plenty of Yeoh to go around in the MCU.

Olivia Munn as Chess Roberts (not Rebeca)

Olivia Munn - Best Cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Closing out this list is an odd story. Olivia Munn originally filmed a cameo in Iron Man 2 which she portrayed Rebeca, a woman who has a sexual encounter with Tony Stark. The scene was later cut, leaving Rebeca out of the picture. However, Munn was offered another cameo by Jon Favreau. Munn reportedly requested that she portray a character from the comics, hence she was cast as Chess Roberts.

Later, Munn would go on to also portray Elizabeth Braddock, aka Psylocke, in X-Men: Apocalypse. While not part of the MCU (yet?) it’s good to see Munn didn’t get burned by her debut in Marvel movies.
