The recent launch of Streets of Rage 4 garnered a lot of attention. Bringing long-time fans of the beat-’em-up genre back into the fold, it’s an old school refresher. So now’s the perfect time to push the genre forward, and that’s what Mass Creation are aiming for with Shing!.

Shing! aims to deliver a classic beat-’em-up experience while adding a few twists of its own. A unique control system is designed around the right analogue stick, letting you pull off angled slices, counters, aerials and more. If it sounds a bit like Too Human that’s because it is, but it looks to offer far greater depth.

The player can select from a variety of warriors each with their own strengths. Furthermore, you can swap between them at any time in an instant to extend combos, revive allies, or conserve power-ups for later use.

Evolving the traditional side-scrolling formula, Shing! will include unique challenge rooms where you can test your skills and reflexes in ultra-hard scenarios. There are also special lore rooms where you can spend time getting to better know your party members, as well as the distinct world of anime-inspired visuals and music.

Mass Creation has released a new gameplay video for Shing!, which can be seen below. In this gameplay commentary, Game Director Greg Kurek breaks down the basics of combat. He also reveals new enemies and a new boss fight, and the teamwork element that makes Shing! playable with friends in both online and local co-op for up to four players.

Shing! is currently in development for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac and Linux. No specific release date has yet been announced, but Mass Creation are aiming for ‘late summer’.
