Steam’s regular Next Fest gaming event has begun once more. Offering PC gamers a chance to test out loads of upcoming titles for developers around the world. Upcoming platformer Nocturnal is taking part in the Steam Next Fest, giving players a chance to delve into a sizable chunk of the videogame pre-launch.
Currently slated for a Spring 2023 launch, for the Steam Next Fest event developer Sunnyside Games has made almost a third of the videogame available. That’s a fair amount considering some demos tend to provide a small sample of the gameplay.
New Gameplay Trailer
In conjunction with the demo release, publisher Dear Villagers has released a brand new gameplay trailer. Here you get to see Ardeshir, a soldier of the Enduring Flame in action, using his ability to control fire to save his home island of Nahran. It’s been engulfed in a shadowy mist that hides sinister forces. Ardeshir can use his Flame to ward off the Mist, ignite the scenery, turn on machinery and burn beings of dark magic.
“Nocturnal is a love letter to classic side-scrolling action games, but with a modern twist,” said Sunnyside Games co-founder Gabriel Sonderegger in a statement. “We wanted the adventure to feel fast, smooth and dynamic. We hope this demo piques your interest in the full game when Nocturnal launches this Spring.”
As you progress in Nocturnal you’ll be able to upgrade your abilities. Improve your health, hold your breath longer and gain new powers. The game will also include speedrunning features like faster transitions and skippable cutscenes. And then there’s a permadeath mode for those after a really difficult challenge.
