Last year, Polish developer Duality Games and publisher HOOK announced an upcoming horror game called Unholy for multiple platforms. Today, you can get your first taste of psychological horror Unholy thanks to a free demo on Steam.

Available ahead of the platform’s annual Steam Next Fest event, the Unholy demo teases the horrors facing the protagonist Dorothea. Taking a leaf out of the Stranger Things rule book, Unholy sees you traverse two parallel worlds in search of the truth.

Unholy worlds await

Living in a run-down, unwelcoming post-soviet town, Dorothea’s son goes missing. Going in search of him she discovers Unholy, a dark twisted world filled with a grotesque society ruled by a relentless priest caste.

Venturing between both worlds players will uncover a gripping narrative whilst solving puzzles and fighting enemies. Unholy‘s combat mechanics utilise emotions, with players tapping into anger, shock, sadness and desire to progress.

Unholy features

  • An intense psychological horror experience driven by a deep, dark narrative storyline played out with captivating visuals based on the works of reputed dark artist Tomasz Strzałkowski (Duality Games Art director and founder).
  • A unique gameplay blend that combines meticulous exploration, intriguing puzzle solving, infiltration and stealth with intriguing shooting dynamics.
  • An intriguing combat system. Use four different emotions: anger, shock, sadness and desire to interact with the environment (destroy obstacles, trigger mechanisms, overload circuits, illuminate your way) or to confuse, lure or damage your opponents.
  • Masks! Everybody in the unholy world hides behind a mask and it can be the difference between life or death. Build your own mask to get new skills and improve your abilities or wear other masks to infiltrate, confuse your enemies and impersonate your opponents.

Play the demo of the psychological horror Unholy for PC, with the official launch taking place on 20th July 2023. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X editions will be released at a later date.
