One of this year’s most highly anticipated releases is approaching. And of course, Nintendo want to make sure you know about it. In addition to the recently revealed Nintendo Switch OLED Legend of Zelda special edition, a video showcasing 10 minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay has also arrived.
Sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom was initially revealed back in 2021. The game was expected to launch in 2022. However, significant delays have lead to it now being scheduled for release on 12th May, 2023.
No longer keeping the the ground and climbing towers, Tears of the Kingdom sees link take to the skies once again. As in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, players will embark upon an epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule. However, this time around players will enjoy more freeform gameplay in a similar fashion to Breath of the Wild.
You’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes. Both of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?

The above The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay video, hosted by series producer, Eiji Aonuma, showcases many of the new features coming in the game. The core gameplay loop will be familiar to fans of Breath of the Wild. However, there’s plenty of new stuff to get stuck into, too!
Tears of the Kingdom is set for release on 12th May, 2023. The game will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Alongside it will be the above mentioned Nintendo Switch OLED special edition.
